What to do in Rio (26 to 29 Jan): social projects special!

Schedule of this week is dedicated to social projects initiatives. So I will use this new symbol to identify events which has as a proposal to raise funds for social projects or motives like that. 

THURSDAY, 26 Jan

Black Haus

Another Thursday night by Black Haus in the most beautiful bar in Rio. Views to Lagoa and Christ, outside area, pool table and lots of good music! And the entrance is free! Downside? Drinks are expensive!

Artesões do Samba 
Samba show at the streets with two great and well-known artists,  Wilson Moreira and Nelson Sargento!

Pré-Carnaval 
If you want to know how crazy nightlife in Rio can be, you should go! Three blocos and Carnival-themed parties together. I’ll be there! Go open to hear almost everything. Wanna wear a costume? More than welcome! 

About the venue: They have an amazing space, with two dancefloors and a terrace.

La Cumbia, Prazer é Poder e Gruta
Three parties gather to make a bigger party! La Cumbia (latin music) with 4 DJs and the other two parties are more of experimental electronic music. About the venue: it’s going to be in a shad City Lab, in Portuary Region. It’s a huge space, where there were cool events before. I think it’s going to be really nice and that not so crowded.

Baile do Banga
Rehearsal of pre-carnival of Bangalafumenga, a big Carnival bloco!

SATURDAY, 28 Jan

Favela Brass 

If there’s anything better than a brass band, it’s a brass band made of cute kids! The event is a initiative of Favela Brass, which promotes social projects such as music and English classes in a community in Santa Teresa. If you want to know more about the project or help in any way, like their page here.

Santa Feira Criativa
Fair of fashion, arts, music and gastronomy, in the beautiful scenario of Parque das Ruínas!

Breja Rio
First edition of a new craft beer festival!

SUNDAY, 29 Jan

Trilha: Morro da Babilônia 
Another great initiative: it’s kind of a benefit trail. Organised by Voluntários do Bem, which are inovative in the ways of raising funds to their social projects. One of these ways is by trails, in which the value per person is a school kit, which will be donated to kids of Jardim Gramacho and orfan houses supported by them. 

About the trail: easy (30 min), at Morro da Babilônia, Leme. Great views and an unusual thing to do!

How much?  1 school kit escolar per person: 2 pencils, 2 erasers, 1 sharpener and 1 big notebook of 96 pages with spiral.

Samba na Serrinha 


If you’re looking for local experiences and good music, go! 

What time? 2pm-9pm.
Where? Casa do Jongo da Serrinha: Rua Compositor Silas de Oliveira, 101, Madureira.
How much? Free entrance, but they ask people to donate food to help on the meals of the kids they help in the community of Madureira. 

Jazz no Morro


Gilda no Cantagalo has this great space with beautiful view to Ipanema. Every Sunday, there’s a jazz sunset there. Bad news are they are closing after Summer, so hurry up!

Baile Black Bom
Event which promotes and honours black culture, as to the Black Music – live and DJs – as to activities such as dance classes and a Black Fair with the best of fashion and craft
